This web site was originally constructed as an exercise in web design and as a tribute to my favourite band, a kind of belated acknowledgement of their music and being decent young people when I first met them back in 1979 ( they still are!). In 1998, some 19 years after last seeing them, I created 4 pages, those being the Camden page, Liverpool Uni, Audio clips and links pages.
I used my own article and my own photographs and a trial version of Dreamweaver. I took 30 sec audio clips from vinyl recodings. I used Penny Kiley's gig review which is credited. I tried to contact Penny.
As a small trickle of interest was aroused, Mick Mercer allowed me to use some his photos which enabled me to expand the site further.
Penetration then contacted me in the summer of 2001 and sent me some of their photos and up to date information. Gradually more and more people were sending me cuttings, badges, programmes to add to the site. Many of the cuttings contained photographs by Rik Walton. Rik has granted us permission to use his photos and has offered us the use of non newspaper pictures.
By now we were becoming a community based on a non rip off philosophy. More and more articles were sent that could not be scanned and remain small enough to download and be legible. These were converted to word files but the author remains acknowledged on the pieces. I would dearly like acknowledgement from these writers particularly, Paul Morley and Phil Sutcliffe. Kevin Anderson who published the fanzine has allowed us to use his article ( all the way from Athens, the article, not Kevin)
Then we got a great boost and were allowed to link to 'a lot of webspace' which we call the Archive. This is not on this server. The Archive contains mp3s of recent live recordings, with full permission of the band, as well as photographs etc.
More and more people are sending me photographs from around the world. By uploading them onto this site I acknowledge the owner's copyright and acknowledge it with alt tags. All video stills are taken off video that I record, copyright of which is held by the band. No recordings or copies are made without the strict permission of the band. Photographs must not be used for commercial purposes. I have not disabled right click save etc or used fancy javascript to stop copying, this is against the sharing philsophy of the site but I ask that people respect copyright and do not use any material for commercial purposes.
This site is run solely as a fan site. No charge is made for the maintaining of the site, nothing is paid for contributions, everything is given freely. No one makes any monetary gain at the expense of the band.
"It's amazing how things have changed in the years since I set up this site. It has moved servers three times, we've now got broadband which negates the need for heavy compression of images. We have video care of YouTube and MySpace and Facebook and of course the band are very busy. The site looks might old fashioned but maybe it should stay that way to reflect the era in which most of the content originated. The Archive is now based on the same server but most video will now be uploaded to YouTube and then linked." -Richard 2008
If you come across anything on this site that you feel infringes your copyright then please don't hestitate to contact me and I will endeavour to sort it.
Thanks, Richard
