Hi,
just seen Penetration at Sinatra's Sunderland. They were awesome. Although they seemed a bit slow in places, to be expected at this stage (SLF and Slaughter and the Dogs were also slow at their early gigs after reforming) the songs were just about note for note perfect. Pauline's voice has lost nothing in 23 years but then she's always had a good voice (thats one thing I noticed when I saw The Storm a few years back). The 2 new lads may as well have been Fred Purser and Neale Floyd as they fitted in with the originals no bother.
The songs they chose were a good selection, from the most popular to b-sides and album tracks not released as singles, especially the inclusion of "Nostalgia" (brillant choice from a Buzzcock's fans perspective), "Stone Heroes" and "Vision". It was fairly quiet to begin with but when "Silent Community" led straight into "Dont Dictate", the 30-40+ year old audience kicked into life, jumping around at the front (didn't know we could still do it at our ages). And with the inclusion of my 2 favourite songs "Danger Signs" and "Firing Squad" the night was perfect. Can't wait for Trillians on the 28th Feb. If this was a low key gig then Trillians should be tremendous.

HEATON The First Gig: It was a live rehearsal which kind of 'grew ' . The idea was just to get everyone together onstage really. It was supposed to be a secret show and was booked a whole three days in advance. Inevitably with two support bands arranged, the secret got out a little bit and about 100 people crammed into a tiny backroom of a pub in Heaton , Newcastle. We played a short set. The whole thing went very well! There will be more activity on the Penetration front in the not too distant future. We're planning some bigger things for next year . ( December 2001 )
